How aware are you? Do you know what your good habits are? Do you know what your bad habits are? If you do, well done! Unfortunately, very few of us know – or care – about our habits. The result is that our habits take over our lives. We live our lives on autopilot. We effectively abdicate our responsibility for our habits and just let our lives drift. Why are habits so important? They are important because they determine our behavior. How we behave is crucial to our well-being and to the way we conduct our lives. Our response to being overweight is not to change the habits that made us fat in the first place, instead we look for some quick fix – a diet – and we continue in the same old way once the diet is over. Is it any wonder that the nation has a weight problem? Unless people get to the heart of what permanent weight loss is all about – behavior change – there is going to be no improvement in the nation’s weight / health problem.

So what is the answer? The answer is that people need to learn to identify the habits that make them fat. They need to recognize their bad eating and lifestyle habits. They then need to learn new habits – slim habits. Learning new habits is the most effective way to make change. The reason for this is that habits cannot be changed. Once we have learned a habit it is always going to be hotwired onto our brain. Learning new habits to supersede our bad habits is the way forward.

The simple process of changing our behavior is the key to permanent weight loss. Once we recognize this and do something about it we can take control of our lives. If we don’t we will suffer because of our inattention to ourselves, and that makes no sense.

You’ve decided to lose weight. You would like to lose it quickly (who doesn’t?) but you don’t want to use artificial means, such as diet pills. In fact, you know that not only the way you eat but what you eat is a major factor in the excess weight you are carrying now, so you want to change what you eat to a healthier regimen. You don’t want to just eat less, you want to eat better. Here are some tips to help you lose weight naturally and safely.

Drink plenty of water. If you’re overweight, chances are you are dehydrated to a greater or lesser degree. If your body is not well hydrated, it stores fat easier and has a more difficult time getting rid of it.

Cut out the processed foods. This, along with proper hydration, are probably the two most significant changes you can make to successfully lose weight. Recent studies have found that most processed food manufacturers and fast food chains add ingredients to their foods just to make them taste good (think MSG and its many variants) so you’ll eat more. You didn’t really need that last KFC drumstick, did you, but the skin tasted so GOOD! Digesting processed foods can put your blood sugar level on a roller coaster, giving your energy level pretty drastic ups and downs. After that last piece of pizza, you just wanted to take a nap, didn’t you?

Eat more fruits and vegetables, preferably organic. Your body digests the complex sugars more slowly, giving you a more even energy level, and the fiber bulk will make you feel full with a relatively low calorie intake. The body cannot digest the fiber, so it is eliminated, but as a side benefit, it attaches to some of the fats and proteins you eat, eliminating them as well. If you eat organic fruits and veggies, you won’t be consuming toxic pesticide and inorganic fertilizer residues on and in the produce. This can have long term positive health benefits for you beyond weight loss.

Get good fats from olive oil or oily fish such as salmon and mackerel. These fats will support your immune system, protecting you from illness. You should eat 3 to 5 servings a week, but if you can’t, take a high quality fish oil supplement.

Don’t neglect high quality proteins. They contribute to maintaining muscle mass, plus you will get an immediate feeling of satisfaction so you are not tempted to overeat. You can get your protein from organic beef, organic skinless chicken, and organic turkey. Beans, lentils, soy, and low fat cheeses, all organic, of course, also provide a good source of protein.

There are many other things you can do to help you lose weight naturally, but if you follow no other steps than the ones listed here, you will lose weight, you will lose it safely, and you will stand an excellent chance of maintaining your weight loss. And as a major added benefit, you will be a healthier person in the bargain.

No matter what you try, there is only one sure fire way to lose weight permanently and that is to chnage your behavior. Unless you cahnge your behavior you will never lose weight permanently, no matter how many diets you go on. I’ll admit it. One of the hardest things I have ever done in my life is trying to lose weight. Not because of lack of motivation or commitment, no, I had PLENTY of that. The problem for me was deciding on the ‘how’. It seems as if everywhere you look, there is a new diet out on the market that promises incredible way to help you lose weight and have a perfect body. The before and after weight lose all look fantastic and are enough to sway just about anyone who is desperate to achieve the body they desire. The choices seem endless and all too often, at least for me anyways, I ended up making the wrong choice. So, how does someone know what is the RIGHT weight loss program for them?

Weight loss tip? The first step in any successful weight loss management is and will always be an exercise program which may include weight strength training. Nothing is a substitute for getting up and getting moving. Check with your doctor, make sure you have no health problems that would prevent you from getting physical, and get to it! Jumping rope, jogging, even brisk walking will start the calories burning and get your program off to a great start. In addition, make sure to add some resistance training to your regimen. For those less experience out there, this means weight lifting. Don’t groan, I know what you’re thinking, but here are the facts. Muscle burns fat. The more muscle you have, the more fat you will burn. Even while you are sitting down watching TV, your muscles will be burning fat. Now, don’t think that just because I am talking about lifting some weights you are going to turn into some bulky bodybuilder. That just doesn’t happen. Your physique will become toned, your muscles will start to show, and your clothes will fit better. All the things you want to have happen.

Now, exercise alone may not be all you need. For some of us, quality weight losing programs are what we need in addition to our exercise routines, but back to the original question, how do we know which one to pick?

When choosing a weight loss plan or product, the key thing to keep in mind is, “Is this something that I could do?” Be sure to learn all the parameters of the program or product and ask yourself this question. Try to picture yourself following the guidelines and outlined and be realistic with yourself. Is this something you will really stick to? Does the cost fit into your budget? Are there any special foods or supplements you will need to purchase? Many people begin weight loss program with the best of intentions, but decide later on that they made the wrong choice. Had they done a little more research beforehand, they likely would have had more success.

How to lose weight is an issue for many people all over the world. The health implications alone are certainly a reason to take some action, but it is the results we see as our bodies’ change that really motivates us to continue and hopefully, eventually succeed. A steady exercise regime will show results sooner or later and you will be successful if you are committed.

These supposedly increase the metabolic rate of the body and thus burn more calories in the body. Diuretics produce only transient and spurious weight loss which can have dangerous side effects.

Weight Loss Tip – Don’t Give Up On Calories!



I have come across so many people who are overweight who have given up on diets and weight loss programs because they ‘just don’t work’. They feel that they should just come to terms with the fact that they are always going to be overweight, it’s in the genes or they have a ‘dysfunctional’ metabolism.

In most cases it has very little to do with genes or a ‘dysfunctional’ metabolism. There is absolutely no reason why anybody should resign themselves to being overweight. It is possible for everybody to lose weight.

In simplistic terms, weight is all about calories consumed versus calories burnt. Burn more calories that you consume and you will lose weight. There are ways of burning calories. The first is through normal every day activity and the other is by taking exercise. How effectively you burn calories is again down to how much exercise you take and also to the health of your muscles, both contribute to making your metabolism more effective. Keeping properly hydrated is also important for better metabolic efficiency. If you have been a serial dieter, then your muscle mass may have been seriously depleted. Resistance exercises are needed to build your muscles back up and make your metabolism more effective.

How many calories you consume is very important. If you reduce your calorie intake too much your body will work against you and prevent you losing weight. If you consume too many calories you will put weight on probably whether you take exercise or not.

One common trait amongst those who have ‘given up’ trying to lose weight is that the majority of people fool themselves about the number of calories they consume. In one instance the person concerned was convinced that she was only consuming 1600 calories a day. She was incredibly proud that of her healthy diet. The reality was that her daily calorie intake was 3500 not 1600. The extra 1900 calories she consumed was due to the fact that her portion sizes were too big and that she was economical with the truth when it came to totalling her calorie intake. She was not destined to be overweight. She had it in her power to lose weight and lose weight permanently. A dose of honesty and new eating and lifestyle habits the answer to her problem.
